This image taken from the docks of Pearson College directed at the fiery horizon colliding into the water of the bay was once a view I deemed normal. It was once my home. For two years this was where I did more growing than I ever thought possible. It was on this water that I embarked on many wet and memorable kayaking trips, the same view I appreciated while talking for hours to friends and the land which held all the people and experiences that have shaped a great part of who I am today. Through conversations with my multi-national community with diversity both visible and not seen I learnt to ask difficult questions on my identity, the identity of others, our shared humanity and the world at large. I unpacked my prejudice, my stereotypes, and gave myself the freedom to grow and learn from those around me. I was continuously challenged academically, socially, emotionally, spiritually and yet it was through adversity that I truly grew. I made it through what sometimes felt impossible because of my community that affirmed and motivated me. Here is where I made friends that I know I will have for a lifetime. I made a connection with my country and the world around me in way that continues to shape my hopes and dreams for the future.
